Art & Design
Here at Oakridge we believe in purpose for learning. Therefore, where appropriate, the creative-curriculum is linked closely with other areas of the curriculum. This allows pupils to embed their knowledge and transfer knowledge and skills across subjects. Pupils have the responsibility for planning, building and evaluating their work.
Teachers take every opportunity to teach art and design within the context of the Creative Curriculum. Each topic will have a ‘Big Question’ that will be discussed, which encompasses one or more of 6 core themes that runs across all our curriculum subjects;
- Democracy
- Social Mobility and Aspirations
- Equality and Diversity (Role of Women)
- Technology and Progress
- Environment
- Culture and Society
Children are taught about the artwork from a range of artists including Andy Warhol in KS1, Kazimer Malevich, David Hockney and Georgia O’Keefe in KS2.
