Working together to succeed

'Working together to succeed'

SEND

Oakridge School is a highly inclusive and supportive mainstream school. We support children with a range of additional needs, and we support a number of pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan.

“Leaders and staff are ambitious when supporting pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)” Ofsted 2022

We think our children with additional needs are fantastic and deserve the best education available.

Oakridge School believes in quality first teaching: that is, pupils with additional needs experience high quality instruction in the classroom alongside peers to ensure that they have the same opportunities as their peers. Where pupils need additional support, this is identified by class teachers, who use the graduated approach to support them (see The Graduated Approach | SchoolsWeb).

If this assessment cycle determines that additional support is required, the class teacher will share this with the SENCo, who will then determine the next stages of support.  The additional support process is run in conjunction with parents as we believe that this approach is the most beneficial for our pupils.

Where needed, we can offer pupil specific interventions or support from our fantastic team of Learning Support Assistants. Our classroom staff undergo regular training and support to offer excellent support.

We have an additional classroom called The Glade; this is a highly specialist class and further information can be shared if appropriate.

What to do if you think your child may have a Special Educational Need (SEN)

Please speak to the class teacher in the first instance.  They are best placed in the school to understand the needs of your child, and the progress they are making.  You do not have to wait for parents' evening for this meeting.

If they agree that your child has, or may have SEN, they may include your child in specific interventions to try and close the gaps.  If these interventions don't work, they may use the Graduated Approach to support your child further, and your child may be included on the SEN Register.

If you feel that you have spoken to the class teacher and you still have concerns, you can request a meeting with Mrs Lindley, our SENCO, through the school office:  office@oakridge.bucks.sch.uk
